Long time passed since I made the last post...
So here it comes:
3rd of April
We started in Savannah at noon, maybe a little bit later, this daytrip was supposed to be the last long daytrip at the eastcoast. We arrived in Daytona Beach at about 5 pm, just went down to the Beach for swimming.
Yes, there are traffic lanes on the beach in Daytona Beach ^^
Our hotel was located directly at the waterfront... well, ok, there was a street between us and the sea but is was only a 2 minute walk to go to the beach.
For those who think this is too far, we had a nice pool in the hotel.
We just jumped in the sea and in the pool afterwards... you have to use it if the hotel provides it.
After swimming we had dinner, just some bread with cheese, salami and peanut butter, this is a great combination :)
After dinner we washed our clothes and put them in the dryer... which didn't work.
So we had a lot of wet clothes which we had to get dry within the next 36 hours before we leave Daytona.
You can see the result in the pictures.
We used every tiny space we could find just to dry our clothes... it got really humid inside the room but finally everything was dryed... and we saved the money for the dryer xD
4th of April - Daytona Beach - Happy Birthday Mr. Heinz ;)
Nothing special at this day... just slept till noon, went to the beach, some swimming, messing with the waves (6 feet = almost 2m high). The water was really nice, 77°F (25°C) and the air was almost 90°F (~32°C).
We had chicken for dinner. Just 5.99 $ for 4 drumsticks and 4 thights... we added some italian bread and some barbecue sauce
In the evening we went out to look for 2 geocaches... we found one. we went to a club afterwards.
Thats it, well Daytona Beach is for swimming, sorry, we did nothing else ^^
5th of April - Daytona Beach
We started in Daytona Beach at about 10 I think, heading towards Orlando... but not to go to one of the parks. Why no parks? Hey... Universal studios' great adventure advertisement says the rollercoaster is 150 feet high... Silver Star in Germany is about 240 feet. The incredible Hulk in Orlando goes from 0 to 40 mph in 1 second... The curse of Novgorod in Germany goes from 0 to 60 in a second... why u no have extreme rollercoasters ?!
We just went to Ripleys believe it or not. The house looks strange from the outside and there are some things inside which are hard to believe but true.
Daniel almost got eaten by a shark oO
There was a piece of the berlin wall with grafiti on it which says: "ICH LIEB MISCH, ICH LIEB MISCH NICHT" and the staff translated it like you can see it in the picture... dear Americans... "Misch" is a slightly change form of "mich" which means "myself" so it just says "i love myself, I don't love myself" Misch is NOT a name !!!
Ok, after visiting the believe it or not we went back to our car... it was so hot inside that I had some time to look for a geocache nearby... just a 5 second search, easy one.
We moved on to Lake Okeechobee, the biggest lake in Florida, take a look at the map, it is huge ;)
We camped directly at the waterfront... but it was really windy. And at the next day somebody told us there are water moccassins (poisonous snakes) in the rocks nearby. And about 20 feet (6m)from the tent there was the water... with alligators in it :)
The full moon and the palm trees at the camping site gave a great picture. It was really a nice place for camping... but it was so windy...
At the next day we just wanted to leave as Maria and her daughter arrived at the camping ground. They wanted to stay for a camping weekend. We talked a little bit and told her that we would like to go fishing, so she invited us to go fishing with them when the rest of the family arrives. So we went fishing :)
We caught so much fish that we were even afraid that the alligators might be starving. That's why we threw them all back without taking a picture... of course nobody's going to believe that, so let's just say we didn't catch anything at all :D
But we took a picture of an alligator swimming nearby.
Maria and her boyfriend Ralf invited us for dinner. We just went to the pool for some time because you don't want to swim in the lake with all the alligators and snakes.
After that we went back to the tents and started setting up the campfire and prepared dinner.
We had a great time with these guys.
We just talked and talked, it was a really nice evening.
If there was no alligator in the morning we would have left a few minutes earlier and never met Maria and all the other guys.
The dinner was great: potatoes, corn and perfectly grilled steaks (thank you for that, Paul)
It was a really nice experience for us and we definetely would like to do that again. Maybe we will meet again when we come back to Miami after we visited Key West.
Thank you for this time, thank you Maria, Ralf, Paul, Christine, Samantha, Brandon, Cameron, Chloe, Dylan (sorry if we forgot someone)
It was hard to leave, but we had to go on to Miami at this evening, so we left at about 9 and arrived in Miami at about 11. John was just waiting for us.
Next post: Miami, Miami Beach and maybe more
