San Diego & Los Angeles
28th of April
We drove from Vegas to San Diego, a 5 hour drive through desert and very much nothing ^^
After arriving in San Diego we set up our tent at a campcround just 3 miles (5km) from the Mexican border, grabbed some food and had a barbecue.
29th of April
We packed our tent, found 2 geocaches and moved on to La Jolla, a San Diego suburb. This was the very first time for all of us to see the pacific ocean.
We drove to the gaslamp quarter, a historic district in Downtown San Diego, where we had a very nice Mexian dinner. After that we drove to our couchsurfing host Lance.
30th of April
After introducing Lance to geocaching, we drove to the city and had a very good, delicious & nutritious breakfast. It's always a good thing to know some locals who know where to go.
We looked for some more geocaches together with Lance and he led us to a couple of neat spots, where one can see the city from above.
The weather was good, so we decided to take a bicycle ride along the San Diego Bay. We rode an old wooden rollercoaster and saw some nice places in San Diego.
This evening was cooking time for Lance & Daniel. They prepared Deep Dish Spaghetti, a kind of Lasagne but with spaghetti instead of pasta sheets.
1st of May
We weren't in a hurry, so we got up pretty late and had some leftovers for breakfast. Afterwards we drove to the biggest park in San Diego: Balboa Park.
We tried Disk Golf, which is like golf, but with a frisbee. Nice experience, but all the other players who have played this before did so much better ^^
Downtown was nice, so we decided to go there again for dinner. Thai this time, delicious meal.
We drove to a couchsurfing meeting after dinner where we met Alberto again, just after seeing him 5 days ago in Vegas.
2nd of May
There is a fantastic state park in San Diego, where you can see the Mexican city Tijuana and a naval base, thanks to the great scenic view.
We visited Loma Lights and took some pictures before we started our way back to Lance because we had planned something big...
A friend of Lance has a boat and they took us out for... waterskiing! A great experience, but it is very hard to stand up from the water, since the waves in front of you are pretty high.
We had an excellent Philly cheese steak for dinner and went to bed soon because we wanted to leave very early in the morning the next day.
3rd of May
We had to get up early because we wanted to go on to Los Angeles this day. It was a 3 hour drive before we arrived in the city of angels.
We parked our car and went to the Walk of Fame.
We took a tour to an observation point where you can see the Hollywood sign. The second part of the tour was Beverly Hills. We saw a lot of houses and mansions owned by actors, singers and other celebrities.
Santa Monica was the next point on our trip. The pier is worth seeing and so are the beaches.
Route 66 ends here after 2451 miles, coming down all the way from Chicago.
We drove to our campground in Malibu, which provides an amazing view and is located almost directly at the sea just 150 feet (50m) above sea level. We fell asleep while hearing the sound of the waves.
4th of May
We had to get up early this day because we wanted to visit Magic Mountain, an amusement park with crazy rollercoasters of all kinds.
It was a very nice day in the park but there was one thing which was not so nice... Michael los his phone at one of the rides.
5th of May
Chillout day, simply laying on the beach, fighting against the waves.
Swimming, bodysurfing (trying to surf a wave without a surfboard), or just lying in the sun doing nothing. In the evening, we had a great dinner to live piano music.
6th of May
After packing our tent and all our stuff we drove to Magic Mountain and picked up Michaels phone, they found it in the night after our visit!
Next place to visit: Santa Barbara.
A city with great buildings and very much green.
We went to the courthouse and had an exciting view from the top of the tower.
A wine tasting at the Santa Barbara pier was just the last point to end our trip to this city, we had to move on.
We stopped at a vista point somewhere at the side of the mountain road we were driving. The view looked really nice with all these green hills.
We drove to Arroyo Grande where our hotel is.
After having dinner and writing this post we fell into our bed.
coming up: the way to San Francisco and the city itself
